HIFU treatment: The Ultimate Non-Surgical Face Lift
HIFU or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound is a non -surgical treatment that uses ultrasound to lift, firm and tighten the skin.
As we age our collagen and elastin production drastically declines, especially during menopause for women. This leads to lines, wrinkles, and excess sagging skin. Common area’s affected are the lower face/jawline area where jowls form and the neck area directly under the chin which we commonly refer to as ‘turkey neck’
There are lots of different treatment options when it comes to these concerns, including Dermal Filler, Profhilo, Skin Boosters, and RadioFrequency Skin Tightening/microneedling, to name a few.
HIFU stands out from the crowd because the results tend to be more pronounced.
This non-surgical face lift works on the SMAS layer deep below the skin, which is the area surgeons tighten for face and neck lifts. Instead of surgery, the Focus Dual HIFU handpiece harnesses ultrasound technology to radiate energy (heat) to the SMAS layer to tighten, lift and plump the skin. Focus Dual comes with cartridges that target different layers, so we can combine tightening the SMAS with stimulation of collagen and elastin in the dermis.
How does hifu work?
The HIFU hand piece irradiates 65-75 degrees of high intensity focused ultrasound energy into the skin, this creates thermal coagulation on the target layers of skin tissue, without causing damage to the surface skin. From the first treatment the HIFU energy triggers a natural response within the skin, causing the body to enter a regenerative process, resulting in the production of collagen and elastin.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?
Results can sometimes be seen immediately, but the results get better and better up to 12 weeks post treatment as your collagen is renewed. We expect results to last 1-2 years, but this can be dependent on lifestyle and maintenance.
CAN HIFU BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?

DOES IT HURT?
You may experience a warming or tingling sensation during treatment. Everyone’s discomfort thresholds are different, but we can adjust the settings to make it as comfortable as possible without negating results.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Treatments are carried out every 6-8 weeks and typically between 1 and 3 treatments are recommended for best results. You will be assessed at consultation and advised on the number of treatments required. Maintenance sessions are performed as required, but usually only once or twice a year.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS/RISKS?
HIFU is a safe treatment with no downtime. You can leave clinic and resume normal life immediately. However, with any treatment there will always be the potential for side effects. Immediately after treatment you may look pink, but this usually resolves within an hour or two. Skin can feel tender for a few days or up to a few weeks. On more rare occasions some minor nerve damage can cause temporary numbness and usually resolves within 2 weeks of treatment without medical intervention.
