Polynucleotide Treatment

why SKINLAB offers Polynucleotide treatment

At SKINLAB, we stay at the forefront of advancements in aesthetic treatments and our resident injectables expert, Sarah, makes sure that we are able to offer the latest in effective treatments. As an expert nurse injector, Sarah trained in advanced Plenhyage face and body techniques (polynucleotides) in April 2022 and we have been offering polynucleotide treatment to our patients since then.

  • We’re also great believers in practicing what we preach at SKINLAB, and we like to share the process and results of 'tweakments’ we’ve had ourselves including this image of Vicky immediately after a session of polynucleotide injections around the eye area.

If you’d like to find out more about what to expect from a polynucleotide treatment at SKINLAB, please read the FAQs below, have a look at some before and afters and book a consultation with Sarah to see if this is the right treatment for your skin concerns.

Frequently asked questions about Polynucleotide injections

  • Polynucleotide injections are a new concept of regenerative medicine, which promotes skin cell turnover and improves skin elasticity and hydration. It can also heal sun damaged skin, improve acne scarring and rosacea, giving a more nourished, healthy, and revitalised complexion.

Polynucleotides (PN) are essentially long chains of nucleotides - think of them as the building blocks of DNA and RNA. These long chains of DNA sourced from salmon or trout sperm, mirrors human DNA. DNA controls many different bodily functions, including how the skin develops.

Their use as an injectable skin treatment brings with it a revolutionary approach to skin rejuvenation and healing.

  • Polynucleotides are classed as a regenerative skin booster treatment.

When used as an injectable, polynucleotides work wonders by stimulating your skin's natural healing processes, promoting cell growth, improving elasticity, and helping to hydrate your skin from the inside out.

Once injected, polynucleotides communicate with our cells, which encourages them to start producing some of the things that decline with ageing. They stimulate fibroblast cells which results in an upturn in production of collagen and elastin, resulting in tissue regeneration and restoration of skin tone and elasticity.

But here's the real beauty of it: polynucleotide treatments are known for their regenerative properties. They can help reduce signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles, and give your skin that plump, youthful glow we all crave.

  • Polynucleotide treatments are incredibly versatile. They can be used on the face, neck, decolletage and body, including use on scars to improve their appearance. They are also gaining popularity for the regenerative effects they have on the delicate under eye area, an area that is particularly tricky to treat. In fact, polynucleotide injections for the under-eye area are changing the way practitioners work. A large proportion of patients that present with this concern are not a good candidate for tear trough filler for many reasons, and this is where polynucleotide treatments are proving safe and extremely effective for all age groups.

  • Given they are derived from salmon or trout, this treatment is not suitable for vegetarians, or anyone with a fish allergy. Nor is it appropriate to use in pregnancy or breast feeding. Other than that, almost anyone else would be a good candidate for this treatment.

Polynucleotides are a safe and effective injectable skin booster treatment for most people as it treats a multitude of concerns. It is a good option for people who are not a suitable candidate for Tear Trough Dermal Filler. If you have fine lines and wrinkles, loss of elasticity, red, sensitive skin, Rosacea and/or scarring then you could be an excellent candidate for this treatment. Treatments areas include Face, Neck, Decolletage, upper arms, acne, stretch marks and scars.

  • This magical injectable treatment is composed of biological molecules that activate tired, aged and damaged cells, rejuvenating your skin and promoting skin repair. Not only does it boost hydration and collagen production, but it also reduces fine lines, wrinkles, redness, and scarring, leaving you with youthful and glowing skin.

Polynucleotide injections are taken as a course of 4 treatments 3 weeks apart. The area to be treated is numbed with a topical numbing cream. The treatment is then delivered using either a blunt cannula or a very fine needle, depending on the area to be treated. It can cause a stinging sensation whilst being injected, but this is not a prolonged sensation and is usually over with very quickly. You will usually be left with small blebs of the product under the skin that may be visible for 24hrs.

  • The under eye area is often one of the first places we notice the ageing process, be it dark circles, loss of elasticity in the skin and fine lines (crow's feet) and wrinkles. People often head straight to tear trough filler for these concerns. However, there are very few people that are good candidates for this risky, and often problematic treatment option. A good practitioner should always discuss this with you prior to treatment.

  • Following your course of 4 treatments your results will last approximately 6 months. It is recommended that you have one maintenance syringe every 6 months following your initial course.

  • You can combine polynucleotide injections with other treatments. Depending on the severity of your concerns; this may be required to optimise results. • Polynucleotide injections are safe, highly tolerated, and have an excellent safety record.

Polynucleotides are an incredibly safe treatment in the right hands. The main risks to consider are bruising and swelling post treatment. Sarah Diamond, SKINLAB’s nurse injector, has many years of injecting experience, both in her previous nursing role and her 8 years in aesthetic practice. She uses a specific needle called a nano-soft needle, which really reduces the risk of bruising.
